Self
Check-in System
We have introduced a new touch
screen system so that patients who
have a booked appointment can check
themselves in for that appointment
without waiting to talk to a
receptionist, if the staff are busy
answering calls or other enquiries.
The system was trialled for three
months but we have now decided that
we will keep it. It has proved
popular with all ages of patients as
it is very simple to operate and
patient's confidentiality is
assured.
We submitted this system for the
"Best use of IT in Practice" award
at the
Scottish National Computer User's
Conference in Dunblane on 1/2
November and we were very pleased to
be awarded 2nd prize.

No Smoking Laws
On Sunday 26th
March 2006 Scotland became
smoke-free. From that date, it is
illegal to smoke in most indoor
places other than private homes.
This includes restaurants, bars,
caf? schools, hospitals etc. The
law also covers most workplaces and
Riverside Medical Practice has
extended its existing smoke-free
policy to include the practice
grounds as well as the building.
If you are a smoker and want to take
this opportunity to try to give up,
help is available from
Smokeline on 0800
84 84 84. Or you can make an
appointment to see our practice
nurse for advice on quitting and the
smoking cessation support available
in this area.
2004
May 2004
Mr. Shearer is now fully settled
into the Practice, and is settling
well into the challenges of helping
the Practice tackle the changes
imposed by the New GP Contract.
2003
August 2003
Apologies for those who have visited
the site over the past few weeks and
found it down, I'm glad to say
normal service has been resumed.
The Practice is once again going
through the interview process to
select a Practice Manager, hopefully
with more success on this occasion!
March 2003
The Practice is in the process of
selecting a new Practice Manager.
Interviews are to held in late
March, and we hope to appoint
thereafter.
2002
December 2002
Dr. Williams has retired from the
Practice, and we all wish her the
very best for her retirement.
Dr. Sally Martin has joined us as
Dr. Williams successor. She has an
especial interest in Obstetrics and
Gynaecology.
November 2002
Unfortunately, Dr. Williams is
currently unwell, and not
practicing. We all wish her our very
best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Her patients are very welcome to
make an appointment with any other
doctor within the Practice of their
choosing.
Unfortunately, due to pressures on
our staffing arrangements, we have
had to make the decision to close at
6pm on weekday evenings. Please note
this is in line with every other
medical practice in Inverness. We do
continue to provide appointments
almost continuously through from
0845 to 1730 every weekday.
October 2002
Dr. Andrea Henderson has joined us.
She is an experienced doctor who was
brought up in Nairn and trained as a
GP in Inverness.
August 2002
We have another junior doctor,
working in his first position, at
the surgery, a Dr. Gordon Black. Dr.
Black hails from Dingwall and is a
graduate of the University of
Aberdeen, and will be working with
us as a 'PRHO' - a Pre-Registration
House Officer.
July 2002
The Practice would like to wish Dr.
Lamont all the very best on her
leaving the Practice.
The Practice has selected a new
partner, Dr. Andrea Henderson to
replace Dr. Lamont, and she will
commence work on the 1st October
2002. Dr. Henderson is from Nairn
and a graduate of Aberdeen
University.
May 2002
The Practice is in the midst of the
process of new partner selection!
April 2002
The main news this month is the
resignation of Dr. M. Lamont. We are
currently seeking a replacement
partner. We wish Dr. Lamont all the
very best in her future career.
We've been rather tardy in updating
the Web Site! Dr. Flynn has now left
us and gone to wetter climes -
Ireland - and we now have a new GP
Registrar, Dr. Sian Jones.
2001
October 2001
Another era has opened at Riverside,
following the retirement of Dr.
Cunningham. He is said to be coping
well with it! Dr. Iain Kennedy has
arrived and settled in well,
enjoying his work.
September 2001
The main news at present for the
Practice is the imminent retirement of
our Senior Partner, Dr. Cunningham,
on the 30th September 2001. Dr
Cunningham will be doing some work
in providing medical cover for
emergency visits over the next month
or so, and has offered his services
as a locum over the near future
should the need arise for the
Practice.
We are of course all going to miss
Dr Cunningham's company and input at
the Surgery, and would all take this
opportunity to wish him all the very
best for his retirement.
Dr Cunningham's replacement will be
Dr Iain Kennedy, an Inverness born
Doctor, with a solid medical record,
excellent references, and unbounding
enthusiasm!
August 2001
We now have another Pre-Registration
House Officer working with us - a
Dr. Margaret Watson. She is fresh
from passing her Medical Degree at
Aberdeen University, and will
continue training with us as she
works under close supervision.
Dr. Nevison has now moved back to
his native North East England, where
he his undertaking advanced training
in General Hospital Medicine.
July 2001
Dr. Cunningham plans to retire in
the Autumn, and The Practice is
currently advertising for a
replacement partner in the
specialist medical press.
May 2001
The Patient Participation Group is
now 'up and running'.
We bid farewell to our outgoing GP
Registrar, Dr. Steven Macdonald, who
after a year at Riverside is now
leaving to travel to Australia,
where he will continue his work as a
hospital doctor in an Accident &
Emergency Department. He has
thoroughly enjoyed his period of GP
Training, and wishes those patients
he has come into contact with all
the very best.
We now have a new GP Registrar with
us, Dr. Martin Flynn, who will be
with us for a year for his
post-graduate training in General
Practice. He is very well
experienced in a variety of fields
of Hospital Medicine, most recently
in Women's Health (Obstetrics and
Gynaecology) and Children
(Paediatrics).
We recently had Dr. James Nevison, a
Pre-Registration House Officer
(PRHO), working in the Practice to
gain experience of General Practice.
He has completed his medical degree,
graduating last Summer from Aberdeen
University, and has already worked
as a doctor in the Medical
Department of Raigmore Hospital.
Whilst at Riverside James worked
under the direct and close
supervision of the GPs, principally
Dr. Kiln. He has now returned to
Raigmore Hospital to work in the
Surgical Department. We are most
grateful to him for a great deal of
technical assistance in the setting
up of this Website.
We have several new additions to our
reception staff.
